Brakes wear out over time requiring service
Your vehicles brakes are an essential component of your vehicle that must be kept working properly for your continued safety on the road. Simply put, having your car regularly checked at a certified and reputable brake repair and service facility is a must. At Gold Wing Motors, we will take our time to examine and troubleshoot the entire brake system.
We will also help you understand the scope of service that your vehicle needs, and preventative measures you can take to make sure your brakes last longer. With every appointment, your car will undergo our complete, multi-point inspection to troubleshoot any components that need attention on the exterior, interior, and beneath the vehicle.
Here are the types of repairs you can expect with brake repair and service appointment at Gold Wing Motors:
1.) Inspection & Potential Replacement of the Master Cylinder – Does your brake master cylinder need replacing? If the brake pedal sinks to the floor every time you hit the brakes, but then returns to the normal elevation when you step of the pedal, then yes.
If you have experienced this then you do need to have your master cylinder replaced soon. Problems with the master cylinder are often grave and can lead to total brake failure. Should your car suffer from this problem, your dashboard brake system warning signal will immediately light up.
2.) Replacement of the Brake Pads – Brake pads have the responsibility of creating friction with the wheels when you need the vehicle to stop. Due to the nature of their functionality, they should be expected to wear out with time. Normally, these pads will require replacing after every 40,000 miles. Such a replacement is bound to save you money down the line by preventing brake problems and ensuring the car stops when needed.
3.) Rotor Replacement – Every time you hit the brakes, the brake pads press onto the disc rotors to bring the car to a halt. Accordingly, disc rotors should be expected to wear out with continued use. When they do, replacement is the best option. Sometimes, the groves on the rotors can be removed to avoid total replacement but this temporary solution makes the rotors thinner.
4.) Caliper Replacement – Calipers work to pinch the pads close to the disc when stopping the vehicle. There are various circumstances under which caliper replacement would be necessary;
a. Caliper Lock-Up – When calipers lock up, the brake pads normally wear out and rotor damage is experienced.
b. Brake Fluid Leak – Damage to the calipers might, also, cause the hydraulic fluid to leak and have the car suffer from total brake failure. Worn out calipers should, thus, be replaced immediately before they cause damage to other brake parts.
5.) Line Replacement – Brake fluid travel from the master cylinder to the wheels every time you step on the brake pedal and the wheels stop. The path taken by the brake fluid should, thus, always remain leak free for the entire system to work. Line replacement becomes necessary when any leaks arises. The replacement works to restore the integrity of the brake system.
6.) Flushing of Brake Fluid – Brake fluid is essential to the proper functioning of the braking system. It is the medium through which pressure from the brake pedal is multiplied and transmitted to the brake disk. The fluid should be clear, or with a yellow tint. It would, however, need replacing when it turns dark for it will not function properly when this happens. Brakes will wear out over time.
